LGBTQIA2S+

ONE Fertility welcomes all patients

Here is some information on treatments, counselling, and legal considerations for LGBTQIA2S+ people looking to build a family. For more general information about our Third-Party Services, click here.

LEGAL:

Laws and regulations in Canada are designed to protect and promote the health, safety, dignity, and rights of Canadians. Navigating these laws and regulations can be difficult and confusing.

Our team is here to help but depending on your treatment, you may need to consult with a fertility lawyer to review agreements and consents.

POTENTIAL TREATMENT OPTIONS:

Every patient will have their initial visit with the doctor, complete testing, review results, before proceeding with treatment. Based on your journey to parenthood, you may consider some of the following Third-Party Reproduction options:

Note: Using a known donor may require a more complicated treatment path, due to regulations around the screening of the donor.

Donor Sperm:

Donor sperm can be provided by either a sperm bank or from a known donor. Treatment options for patients using donor sperm can be either be used for DONOR intrauterine insemination (DI) or In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

Donor Sperm Service Providers:

Donor Eggs (Oocytes):

There are different egg donor sources:

  • Anonymous Donor Eggs: involves acquiring frozen eggs from an egg bank or working with an anonymous egg donor through another clinic (such as Shady Grove Fertility).
  • Directed Egg Donation: egg donation through a known friend or family member
  • Reciprocal IVF: One partner from a same sex couple can provide their egg to create an embryo that is then placed in the uterus of the other partner who will carry the pregnancy

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and/or Frozen Embryo Transfer is a treatment option available when using donor eggs.

Donor Egg Service Providers:

Donor Embryos:
This is facilitated through an approved agency. For those that are interested, please contact Beginnings Family Services, in Hamilton.

Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) is a treatment option available when using donor embryos.

Gestational Carrier (Surrogate)
A gestational carrier (surrogate) is a person who will carry a baby on behalf of another person or couple. The gestational carrier can either be a known family member or friend or a reputable agency can help you find a potential carrier. We have worked with Surrogacy in Canada Online, JA Surrogacy, HIVE and Canadian Surrogacy Options in the past and these agencies have been approved by our clinic. Please reach out to infoivf@onefertility.com to learn more.

Treatment options for gestational carriers can either be through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) or Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET).

Reproductive Options for Transgender People:
Hormone therapy and/or surgery can impact your ability to conceive. ONE Fertility will work with you to determine a treatment plan either for conceiving or preserving your eggs, sperm, or embryos, for future use.
